| The Theater of the Self If you have already seen my work, then you have encountered various characters: snowmen, devil-girls, scouts, buddhas, ghosts and robots. I am an amalgam of all my characters, an aggregate consciousness, a memetic montage, a forum. I, Amphorum. Although I admit that the illusion of a singular self is luridly seductive, upon inward inspection this facade is flimsy at best. We are all composed of various memes that are in constant shifting conflict and, for me, that conflict erupts into my art, turning it into a theater of myself. Each character that arrives on stage is, at first glance, a typological construct pulled directly from the popular subconscious. However, each has been tweaked and reformed into a vehicle that not only enacts archetypal conflicts but also embodies aspects of my own internal theological, philosophical and personal battles. |
